The private equity discussion will address the strategies that funds use to create value in the Indian market. Does this vary between multinational and homegrown funds? How have these strategies evolved with the growth of homegrown funds? What are the "target-points" of entry? In addition the panel will highlight exit and liquidity strategies, and also discuss the current market situation in India.

Anil Chawla Managing Director, DE Shaw
Anil Chawla is the CEO of D.E. Shaw India. The D. E. Shaw group is a global investment and technology development firm with more than 1,600 employees; approximately $30 billion in investment and committed capital as of January 1, 2009; and offices in North America, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Chawla started D.E. Shaw’s Indian operations in June 2006.
Prior to D.E. Shaw, Mr. Chawla was the CEO of GE Commercial Finance (India and South East Asia). At GE, he led the corporate growth team which was setup to triple revenues in India in three years to $3 billion by 2008. He joined GE as an Assistant Vice President in April 1996, was promoted as CEO of GE Commercial Finance (India) in 1999 and CEO of Commercial Finance (India & South East Asia) in March 2003.

Sundaram Sivaramakrishnan CFO & Partner of Baring Private Equity Partners, India
Sundaram Sivaramakrishnan is the CFO and a Partner of Baring Private Equity Partners, India - which is a part of the $7 billion Baring Private Equity International. Baring India manages funds of close to $1 billion and has been operating in India for close to 12 years. Recently, Baring India was selected for Venture Intelligence's 'Best mid market PE firm' by leading LPs who invest in the India market.
Sundaram is a CPA from India, a Chartered Company Secretary, a Chartered Financial Analyst and has a MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, India's premier business school. His career began as Executive Assistant to the Group Chairman of the Sanmar Group, a large multi-billion dollar Indian conglomerate with diverse business interests.
The risk bug bit him in 2000, when he threw up a rising career with the conglomerate to take up the CFO's position in an IT start-up based out of San Jose, California - Cybernet-SlashSupport (CSS) - with 40 employees in 2 countries and revenues of around $0.5 million. By 2007, the company had grown to nearly 5,000 employees spread across 10 countries, with Revenues of about $75 million and is now touted as an IPO candidate.
During his stint as a CFO, he shepherded the group through five VC / PE investors, including Barings, Deutsche Bank, SAIF Partners, Goldman Sachs and Sierra Ventures, raising nearly $70 million of capital. Two of the five VCs had successful and profitable exits.
In 2007, he joined Baring Private Equity Partners as a Partner and CFO and continues to be based in California. He is a member of the firm's Investment Committee and serves on the board of various companies including Secova, Infrasoft and Sphaera Pharma.

Sid Yog (Moderator) Founder and Managing Partner, Xander Real Estate Partners
Siddharth Yog is the Managing Partner of The Xander Group Inc. and co founded the firm with Arthur Segel in 2005. He also serves as the Chief Investment Officer for Xander Real Estate Partners I & II, the firm's two India focused funds and has been responsible for investments in that market in large township developments, mixed use city center projects, hotels & resorts and a large public-private partnership.
Sid has 14 years of global experience in real estate spanning 15 countries across Asia/Pacific. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, Governments, Private and Public development companies and leading Institutional investors. He has been responsible for structuring and implementing some of the largest public-private partnerships and privatization programs in Indian real estate.
From 1999 to 2002, Sid was based in Singapore and Hong Kong as Founder Director of CB Richard Elli's Asia/Pacific strategic consulting practice. Earlier from 1994 to 1998, he helped set up CB Richard Ellis' (CBRE) India operations and led the consulting, valuation and research groups. He has also worked at Bain & Company in New York, Deutsche Bank Real Estate Investment Management GmbH in Frankfurt and Feedback Ventures in New Delhi.
Sid received an MBA from the Harvard Business School with highest distinction and was elected a Baker Scholar. Earlier he earned an Honors degree in Economics from the University of Delhi. He has served on the board of directors of the Harvard Business School alumni association from 2003-2004; and helped found the India Brand Equity Foundation's "Experience India" program for global students of business.
